Title of Research:

Fair-Trade in Global Production through EU institutions: Evaluating Social Movement Organisation Strategies

Brief overview of research topic:

During my PhD, I seek to understand how trade justice social movement organisations promote global agendas of ethical trade through supra-national Institutions such as the EU. Furthermore, I aim to analyse the strategic environment, strategies, and tactics of these organisations. Finally, I evaluate the justifications of these strategies by deriving narratives from organisational leaders surrounding the impact of these strategies.

To understand this, I use qualitative methods to analyse the strategies of Non-Governmental Organisations of the Fair-Trade Movement seeking to promote their transnational agendas by influencing European Union policy-making. My research brings together literature on Social Movements, Global Production Networks, Fair-Trade, European Union Politics, Comparative Lobbying, and Strategic Planning to illustrate this analysis.
